Elijah Wood: Working 24/7 is a Hard Hobbit to Break

Although the 32-year-old actor is mostly known for his reoccurring role in The Lord of the Rings, Elijah Wood wears many creative hats that tend to go unnoticed. Most of his hats are entertainment related, as Wood is currently working on many different projects both on the big and small screen. He does a great job of staying out of the limelight, avoiding making drunk appearances at clubs and experiencing high-profile breakups, so his talent and hard work often gets overlooked by tabloid-selling stars. Wood has a versatile talent and array of unique interests that not many actors can imitate. He is an actor guaranteed to be in the business for the long haul.

This American television series airs on the FX network. Based on a popular Australian series that was remodeled by David Zuckerman of Family Guy, the fictional comedy series debuted in June 2011 to rave reviews and much success. Wood, star of the show, is a friend of the neighbor’s dog. He is familiar with television, having acted in numerous television movies prior. Wilfred is now in the third season of taping, so Wood spends a great deal of his time filming.

A far cry from his traditional character, Wood demonstrated his deep acting talents when playing a serial killer in the French-American slasher film Maniac. The movie is available for viewing on demand and can be purchased through platforms including iTunes and Amazon. The movie did not execute a huge press tour; meaning millions did not know the movie existed. That said, Wood still gave an excellent and enthralling portrayal.

Tron: Uprising

While Wood wasn’t busy filming, he lent his voice to Tron: Uprising an animated series on Disney XD that ran from May 2012 to January 2013. The science fiction show aired 19 episodes, in which Wood is the main character. Over the years, Wood has voiced several characters. He has also voiced a number of audio books.

The Hobbit

The Hobbit series is prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy, each movie being released one year apart until 2014. All of the movies were shot in the scenic countryside of New Zealand. The first film, An Unexpected Journey, was released in December 2012. There are currently two new The Hobbit movies in the works. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is in production and set for release in December 2013. The Hobbit: There and Back Again is currently filming and is estimated to release December 2014.

DJ Jamie Starr

Wood has a number of hobbies outside of the acting realm that include charity work and a love for music. His charity work has been geared towards youth and AIDS awareness. Wood was once quoted saying he owns over 4,000 CDs, so it comes as no surprise that he makes DJ appearances. When spinning music, Wood uses the name Jamie Starr. At the 2013 Coachella music festival, Wood worked the turn tables as a DJ at clothing brand Lacoste’s pool party. Jamie Starr has DJed numerous events in Los Angeles this summer. Lord of the Rings fans often refer to Wood as DJ Frodo, his character’s name, rather than DJ Jamie Starr.

Miscellaneous Appearances

Other work outside of acting includes appearance in video games and music videos. In the last decade, Wood has contributed to video games related to Lord of the Rings. His first music video spot was in 1989 in a Paula Abdul video, and his last was in a 2012 Flying Lotus video.
