Sex and the Weirdo

This week New Girl focused in on Jess and her weirdly quirky way of dating. After all, the show began with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) working on an intense back story for a sex role-play character, so this sexual weirdness is not out of character. Paul (Justin Long), just as awkward as Jess, is mostly terrified at her violent attempts at sexiness and complicated underwear. Paul is a really fantastic foil to Jess and Justin Long is doing a great job. I hope they keep him around for awhile.
Sexy Jimmy Stewart?
When Jess and Paul try to take things to the next level, she comes down with a bad case of stage fright. This causes her to talk like an old-timey newsman and "lightly" choke Paul. The guys try to give her advice, but she should really know by now never to listen to Schmidt (Max Greenfield). He's busy this episode anyway, trying to get in good with the boss by inviting himself to her baby shower and then turning it into a pregnant frat party.
Love in an Elevator
All the plots were working at optimal hilarity this episode. While Jess' story about getting over her fears brought most of the laughter, the guys' subplots were funny as well. One of the best moments was the interplay between all the roommates as Jess grilled them about sex. The cast has excellent comedic chemistry in moments like this, and it shows. Jess' terror at Schmidt's porn was so realistic, her face after five hours of viewing looked like what most guys look like after being dragged to see Twilight.
This episode had some of the best sight gags of the series to date. Who could forget the proud joy on Nick's (Jake M. Johnson) face as he sports his ridiculous looking fade? Or the horror on Schmidt's face moments after drunkenly pushing his pregnant boss into the pool, only for her to be totally on board? Also hilarious: Watching Paul try to navigate Jess' weird rope obstacle course lingerie while she talked like an extra from Good Night, and Good Luck.
