The CBI investigates a fashion crime.
This week on The Mentalist, Jane and the team try to solve the murder of a fashion designerattempting to make a comeback.
Fashion Victim
The CBI is called to a warehouse where they find Wyck Theissens, a fashion designer whohad been disgraced, but was preparing to make a comeback to the fashion industry with a newcollection. Jane finds a secret room in Wyck's warehouse space that contains the collection andthe murder weapon, a pair of shears. Jane and Lisbon question Wyck's assistants, who say thatWyck argued with Guy Duval, a business associate. When Lisbon and Jane interview Duval, they learn from an associate of his that Wyck argued with Duval about a photographer that Wyckdidn't like. The team thinks the photographer is responsible for the murder until it appears he hasan alibi.
The Runway
The team looks for Mr Liu, the owner of Wyck's warehouse space, who Wyck had beenproviding knock off dress for send back to China. Cho and Rigsby manage to track Liu down, and find him being tortured by some Asian gangsters. Liu tells Lisbon that the gangsters camewhen he told them he wouldn't be getting any more dresses. Jane talks to the assistants and asksfor one of the feathers that Wyck was using for one of his new dresses. Back at the station, Janeshows the gangsters the feather, claiming he's trying to solve the murder. He later tells Lisbonand the team that only the assistants and the murderer would know what the feather was from.Jane and Lisbon take the feather around to all the suspects, looking for a reaction, until a modelfreaks out while they are interviewing the photographer. The model admits that she killed Wyckafter he told her another model was going to be modeling his feather dress.
Though the subplot this week, focusing on FBI Agent Susan Darcy's investigation of Jane andRed John, seems to be slow and pointless, it takes an unusual twist at the end of the episode, when Darcy learns that Red John is still alive. This opens up possibilities of Darcy and Janeworking together to find Red John in future episodes. However, the strangest thing about thesubplot was Wainwright's reaction to Darcy's investigation. I thought for half a second thatmaybe he IS Red John, but he seems too nervous for a cold as ice killer. I guess we'll have towait and see.
