Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul have quite a remarkable relationship: even though she was hired and fired by not one, but two of his shows, they have managed to remain very close friends. So now that Paula's X-Factor judging duties are over, we got to thinking: What other sorts of TV collaborations would these two be just perfect for?
Moonlighting
Admit it: you miss Moonlighting. Cybil Shepherd and Bruce Willis as private detectives who have a sexual tension so thick you could cut it with a knife? Classic. Moonlighting was named one of the 100 Best TV Shows of All Time by Time magazine, and I think it's high time for a remake. Paula Abdul could star as former shampoo model Maddie and Simon Cowell could star as the smooth-talking, carefree David, and week after week they could get in all sorts of detective agency-related adventures.
Who's the Boss?
I can't think of anything more delightful than watching Simon Cowell fill Tony Danza's shoes as Tony Micelli, a former professional baseball player who, after an injury, is forced to retire and work as a housekeeper. Add in Paula Abdul as Angela Bower, Tony's employer, and this remake is sure to be a hit.
Mork & Mindy
The role of alien Mork from Ork launched Robin Williams' career to super-stardom. Simon Cowell doesn't need that kind of career boost -- he's already a superstar. However, that's exactly the reason this remake would work so well. Who wouldn't want to tune in every week to see Cowell act the part of a wacky alien who doesn't quite understand accepted human behavior? Paula could play Mindy, Mork's human friend and roommate who does her best to help Mork fit in on Earth. Na-nu na-nu!
The Honeymooners
Paula has put up with a lot of crap from Simon over the years, which proves she is the perfect person to play the patient-but-opinionated Alice Kramden to Simon's Ralph. Ralph Kramden constantly threatens Alice ("One of these days POW! Right in the kisser!"), but she knows they're just empty threats. Just like Paula knows that when Simon is being a jerk, it's all an act. These two are so much like real-life Honeymooners that the sitcom remake practically writes itself.
All in the Family
Since Simon and Paula are already pretty much like an old married couple, they'd fit perfectly into an All in the Family remake! Simon could play the grumpy, misguided war veteran Archie Bunker and Paula could play his sweet, ditzy wife Edith. Simon playing a bad-tempered character and Paula playing a naïve one? Gee, that sounds pretty much exactly like their judging roles on American Idol!
Green Acres
What could be better than watching Simon and Paula play luxury-living city folk who suddenly move to the country? Paula would perfectly fill Eva Gabor's high heels as a privileged trophy wife who doesn't want anything to do with her husband's dream of living on a farm. And watching Simon attempt to tend to the land and drive that tractor with the wheel that is always falling off would be priceless.
