Tonight's Auditions Had Some Great Voices
I loved The Voice tonight! Rich-toned Jesse Campbell was perfect in my book. He's definitely my favorite of the night. The fact that he's also had homelessness issues and he and his teen daughter had to sleep in the car has nothing to do with how much I love Jess's voice (really, I swear!) I'm not that much of a softie for these talent shows! There were a few voices that I didn't care for at all tonight, which always surprises me given that it's audition by invitation! Adam Levine's "just a country singer" BURN!
Right off the bat, Adam Levine, the talented lead singer of Maroon 5 (one of my all time fave bands!) insults all the fans and performers of country music! He's competing with Country Music Award (CMA) winner, and hubby of Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, to get the first contestant's pick as her coach. This first "voice" tonight is a cute 17 year old blond Texan named Raelynn who is obviously into country music when she brings out her "geetarr."
Adam tells her she can be more than "just a country singer" if she picks him, but Raelynn, who, to be honest, didn't wow me with her singing, only has stars in her eyes for country stars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton. But, we knew that right from the beginning when Raelynn chose Miranda's "Hell on Heels" to sing. It's a right done deal, y'all!
"Everybody's the same color with the lights off."
When struggling single dad, Jesse Campbell, gets up to sing "A Song for You," I'm stunned - in a good way! His voice is amazing and I enjoy listening to him. He's so good that three out of the four coaches were turned around pressing their buttons wanting to be picked as his coach before Jesse even got one complete sentence out!! Blake was the lone hold out who did turn around after though. When he saw he was the last to do, so he hilariously called himself a "dumbass."
Coaches Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green fight especially hard to win Jesse over to their side. After Cee Lo refers to Jesse as "brother" (yes, they're both black in case you haven't seen the episode yet!), Christina comments that she may not be the same color as they are, but that really she'd be best to coach Jesse. Cee Lo livens up the place with his comment that "everybody's the same color with the lights off" (ha ha!! good one!), but it's Christina who gets picked by Jesse. Yay! I like this pairing!
"No connection" means no selection!
Bespeckled, bow-tied Daniel Rosa has pitch issues and doesn't make the cut. Juliet Simms does, but I find her a bit too raspy-voiced. Chris Mann is another singer that doesn't thrill me tonight, but Christina seems eager to be his coach.
A cameo by Alicia Keys makes me happy again!
We'll always have The Mickey Mouse Club
Tony Lucca, who sang with Christina in The Mickey Mouse Club we are told, gets up. Christina gigles and hits the "I want to coach you button" so I think she must remember him. But, surprise! She doesn't! Lucca gives her a slap in the face by NOT picking her as his coach! It's classy when Christina runs back stage to hug Tony and tells him "no hard feelings."
Did you love the premiere of The Voice tonight? Are you looking forward to the two hour episode tomorrow?
