Closure
It looks like Brittini (am I getting her incorrectly spelled name right?) is going to get her closure after all! And despite Daniel's bumbling attempt at dialectic, they were able to clear the air with surprisingly little drama, and resolve to remain friends.
Danger's Newest Girl, Lauren, comes to the Karate Mafia Gym to watch him practice. For those who don't remember, Danger is now running the whole joint, and it seems that the situation has not managed to implode already.
"Are you getting any exercise other than *bleeping* my brother?" Bri, Danger's sister, asks Lauren. The response is a big negative.
The Karate Mafia Gym implosion is certainly on the horizon. The fighters are given a sobering speech concerning their dwindling futures if they remain at the gym.
Wounds
Daniel got kicked in his side during a fight, and assumed something bruised inside. It turns out to be shingles. The doctor said it could be 'stress-related,' but the more likely culprit is The Karate Mafia Gym. Remember what they said about 'a rash going around'? The deteriorating gym seems to have sanitation issues.
This painful, blistering condition will take Daniel out of the running this week. His fight is cancelled.
Wes' broken thumb is still giving him trouble. Something like that could very well impact a fight.
Tony (remember Tony? He was the 4th Fighter a couple episodes ago) received a pretty big black eye getting into shenanigans. A bar fight left him with a fractured eye socket, nose, and a mottle-colored eye.
Like a Lion
John Wesley (remember him? 4th fighter from last week!) is injury free, fitting for the most promising of the 4th fighters. He has a heart to heart with Wes, who opened up about his fears concerning his son, Jax.
Although Wes' relationship with Red has disintegrated, he revealed his chagrin at the prospect of anyone other than him "playing daddy" in Jax's life. And he feels the same way about anyone playing mommy other than Red.
Danger and Bri argue on how to handle their mother, who has spun into an alcohol-soaked depression after her newest husband left her. Danger doesn't want to hear from Bri that an obese diabetic with a drinking problem is liable to end up killing herself if someone doesn't intervene.
Sweat, Sweat, and Sweat
We get more insight into the underlying madness of this sport as Wes attempts to literally sweat off six pounds, and in true illogical fashion, the required sacrifice is water weight, which has nothing to do with the musculoskeletal justification for weight classes.
A parched Wes manages to do it.
Bon Temps
The fight this week takes us to The Big Easy itself, New Orleans. Wes is up first, artificially down to a lower weight.
His fight is messy and long, which I'm sure was a big thrill for the audience. Wes takes quite a few licks, managing to dish out some of his own. But he took much more than he gave, the slams and face punches stacking against him. Wes lasted until the end, but the judging decision was unanimous for his opponent.
He missed his son's first birthday to get manhandled by a stranger.
