I hope I don't have nightmares tonight after this creepy-crawly episode of Hoarders. If you're a fan of the show, you've seen cobwebs before in the hoarders' homes, but this was the worst ever! Big gobs of cobwebs filled with big, fat, black spiders! The kitchen sink in Fred and Mary's house was crawling too -- with cockroaches. In keeping with the creepy-crawly theme tonight, Barbara's freezer was filled with maggots and there were rats running through her giant piles of clothing.
The story of Santa Barbara
Barbara comments that people call her "Santa Barbara" because she wraps up her garbage finds and gives them out as presents like a hoarding type of Santa Claus. Barbara's hoarding completely covers both her outside yard and her inside living space.
She's going to lose her home if she doesn't clean up all the mess, but Barbara is stubborn, as the psychologist who works with her points out. She has problems deciding to throw out the tiniest item such as an old cassette tape (wonder if she has any 8 tracks in there?), even though she faces being homeless.
Moving to a hotel because things are bad, bad, bad
Fred, Mary and their sweet 14-year-old son, Kevin, are forced to move to a hotel they can't afford for much longer as their home is not fit for living. It's sad to see Kevin's bed situated on a pile of garbage. Unlike Barbara's home of clothes and junk, Fred and Mary's is filled with bags of garbage. The extreme cleaning crew and psychologist help the family.
Kevin comments that after living in the "normal" state of the hotel, he doesn't want to live in garbage anymore. You can't blame him! It's tough enough trying to be a 14-year-old today. He could never even bring a friend over or anything due to the horrible state of the home.
There is hope!
Even stubborn Barbara begins to change her ways as we see at the end of the episode. Fred, Mary and Kevin seem like things will be better for them. I hope they can maintain a feeling of peace, as it should help heal their hoarding ways. What do you think?
