Jane has a limited amount of time to prove a woman is innocent.

This week on The Mentalist, Jane fights the clock, trying to prove a woman accused of murder is innocent, while the jury for her trial is deliberating.

Two Timing

After seeing accused murderer, Eve Mulberry, give an interview outside the courthouse, Jane decides she is innocent and tries to help prove it. Jane starts by getting Eve to admit she was having an affair with the victim, Carlos Ruiz. When Eve's husband, Peter, doesn't seem too shocked, Jane thinks he suspected what was going on. Jane also deduces that Eve's best friend, and co-owner of their vineyard, Amy Barron (Diane Farr), knew about the affair. VanPelt and Rigsby talk to Detective Silva, who originally worked the case, and ask about a business associate of Carlos's named Riley, who was mentioned in the case file, but was never interviewed. Rigsby figures out that Riley is an alias for Terry Murphy, who has a record of identity theft. Cho gets his CI, Summer (Samaire Armstrong), to set up a meeting With Murphy.

Tricky Jane

At the meeting, Summer wears a wire and gets Murphy to admit that he knew Carlos and invested money so Carlos could start an ATM skimmer scam. When she asks one too many questions, Murphy get suspicious. Cho and Rigsby take Murphy into custody, but Summer is hurt in his attempt to flee. While being questioned, Murphy says he didn't kill Carlos. Jane asks Murphy about how he creates the identities he sells and later, as part of his plot to find the real killer, arranges to buy a new identity for himself. Jane then leads Eve and Peter to believe that Murphy had Carlos's house wired with surveillance cameras and may have the murderer on camera. After a simple ploy to reveal the real killer, the CBI team learn that Amy framed Eve for murder because Eve didn't want their vineyard to expand, thus not making any money for Amy. Cho and Summer finally get together after Cho admits he likes her. Good for them.

So, once again, it seems that Jane knew exactly who the killer was, but didn't say anything until the last possible second. Oh, Jane. You rascal. Tune in next week when Morena Baccarin returns as femme fatal Erica Flynn.
