For the last episode of this short season, Fear Factor decided to go big. Two hours, five stunts, contestants fighting - the show literally did go out with a bang. How did it all unfold? Let's dig in!
Hanging on by the bikini straps
For the first stunt, one of the contestants is strapped on the belly of a helicopter. Their partner has to crawl out of the helicopter and untie them before dropping them on a platform on the water where they have to untie a flag before the clock stops. In most of the cases tonight, the women get strapped under the helicopter while the men leap to release them. But no one actually succeeds in releasing their partner at the right time for them to hit the platform.
Dropping some lines
Dana and Aaron are the first to go. They broke up a while ago and have a rap they must share with the nation before doing their stunt. "In our relationship we're confused cause we're more on and off than a pair of shoes" goes one of the lines. Superb. Two minutes and 47 seconds is their time and everyone else beats them easily. I guess performing mediocre rap is not a good skill set to win Fear Factor.
It's the bee's knees
Keith and Lorann, who won the first stunt, win the second one as well. And they broke up 3 days before filming the show. Pretty impressive. For once, this stunt is really a scary one. One of the contestants hangs from a rope suspended in the air covered by over 100.000 bees. Their partner has to eat 20 live bees, retrieve an axe handle covered in bees, smash a box that contains the axe head, assemble the axe and severe the rope. Joe Rogan is inspired to wax philosophies like "you're a bee eating savage!" to cheer on one contestant. Eddy and Jen, who didn't make a very strong impression in the first stunt, are eliminated because Eddy can't figure out how to fix the head on the axe's handle and wastes a lot of time with that.
High in the sky
Keith and Lorann also win the next stunt. One of the contestants is seated in front of a glass window 13 stories high. Their partner has 2 minutes to retrieve as many flags as possible 150 feet above ground. For every flag retrieved, the other receives one sandbag that they then have to throw as close as possible to the middle of a target on the ground when they are both ejected into the air once the 2 minutes are up. Troy and Dorothy who met while being deployed in Iraq where he was her superior, get into a senseless rivalry with front runners Keith and Lorann. But no one is eliminated during this stunt so let's move on to the next one.
You have to have balls
You guessed it: the dominating team so far also won the fourth stunt: Keith and Lorann. This one involves bull testicles. 500 of them. One of the contestants is strapped to a rotating blade. The other has to shove a bull testicle in their mouth and then transfer it to their partner's mouth who then has to spit it into a container. The military duo loses this one, a loss punctuated by Troy spitting at a yapping Dorothy and then kind-of-apologizing by saying: "it was in the spur of the moment". A real class act, that one. Zak and Misty, who met each other through a Craigslist posting, go on to the final and have to compete against the team that won every single round so far.
Explosions and fireworks
The final stunt is a little tame for my taste. One of the contestants is handcuffed to the roof of a truck. Their partner has to uncuff them. Then they have to drive a car into said truck, that is now moving. In the car, one is moving the steering wheel while the other has to handle the pedals. That's neat. But in the end the stunt is not as exciting as the explosion at the end tries to convince us. Zak and Misty win, proving that meeting on the internet is not necessarily a bad thing. At least in the Fear Factor world. Keith and Lorann's wins so far are meaningless as they now go home empty handed.
