The River: None So Blind

Our journey down The River continues, as the search for Dr. Cole ends up in a blind alley -- literally. Jungle Fever

If you were hoping for a season-long mystery as good as Lost's smoke monster, prepare to be disappointed. Three episodes in, The River looks like it's going to be a "monster of the week" show. This week's creepies are the Morcego, blind cave dwellers helpfully explained by know-it-all Jahel (Paulina Gaitan). You think maybe we should start listening to her?

The Crap Starts Flying

After getting chased out of the cave by a bunch of defecating bats, the crew beds down for the night. When they wake up, there are weird drawings outside of their tents. Like this show wasn't Blair Witch enough? They find Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) in the woods, blinded. The rest of the crew follows suit, one after another. Well, at least that means they won't see any monsters.

Blind Man's Bluff

As the crew of the Magus stumble around like idiots, we get hints that Dr. Cole's wife Tess (Leslie Hope) and producer Clark (Paul Blackthorne) might have been illicitly involved. Cameraman A.J. (Shaun Parkes) is the only one unaffected, and he heads off into the jungle to find an antidote. And then... the Morcego attack! Why not?< p> All Apologies

The crew on the boat is under attack, and A.J. abandons everybody. We get another ending like last week's, where one of the crewmembers (Clark this time) performs an act of selflessness and that makes the monsters back off... until next week! I don't know about you, but to me this is pretty lazy storytelling only three shows in. I want more of the big mystery and less of this X-Files junk.

Is The River everything you hoped it would be, or are you as disappointed as I am? How gross were those leeches all over Lena? And how much better does Lincoln look with his stringy hair cut? Best Lines:

"Doc gave me a home on this ship. I owe him my life."

--Emilio on why he isn't abandoning the mission.

"The mummy in the cave with its eyes cut out -- does that mean we''e next?"

--Lena states the obvious.

"If the Morcego are judging us, we are failing."

--Jahel after the crew kill a pig.

"Sorry love, but dragging around you two blind mice while being chase by natives? That'll just get me killed."

--A.J. abandons Lena and Brynildson in the jungle.

"Take me and leave the rest!"

--Clark tries to sacrifice himself to save the others.
