I loved the Live Quarter Final Performances tonight because it means the competition is moving on and we're getting closer to finding out who the top few will be. At the same time, there's a greater risk of my favorites, like Jesse Campbell and RaeLynn, going home. Blake and Christina will each have to send another one of their singers home tonight.
Electrified country
RaeLynn, the young farm girl from Texas, sings "She's Country" like she's had it as a hit record for years. Christina calls her a "bad ass" and Cee Lo says it's like AC/DC did a country tune! Adam loved it too. Her coach, Blake, says he's proud and RaeLynn proves "country can kick ass." Is "ass" the secret word tonight?
Fingers crossed
Jesse Campbell sings "Halo" for Team Christina and he finishes well, but his voice had some weak and breaking moments, so I'm worried for his fate. CeeLo compliments Jesse though without any negative feedback and so does Adam and Blake. Christina says emotionally it was good and she goes on about the framed pictures of Jesse's daughter on the set, but she says zero about his actual singing! Uh oh ...
A whole lot stronger!
Of course, it's Team Blake's turn again. Jordis Unga is up doing "A Little Bit Stronger" in a white mermaid style gown that looks kind of odd with her tattooed "sleeves." The metal bed with only a hollow wire mattress sitting out on the stage is also odd and I'm trying to concentrate on her voice, but really, that stuff is distracting! I loved the emotion in her voice and think it's her strongest song so far." The other coaches all liked it too and Blake called it "perfect."
The many sides of Christina
Christina Aguilera performs on stage with her team. There are skimpy black outfits and a lot of sparkles in true Christina style. First, Christina does country and the half-naked back up singers place a straw hat on Blake's head. Oh Blake really loves those nekkid back up singers - not! The Crenshaw High School Choir adds an odd contrast here - especially in their long, blue and yellow choir robes. Still, the choir voices add a nice musical touch.
Not a foolish song choice
Ashley De La Rosa does "Foolish Games" for Team Christina and wow - she really sings it with lots of talent. I think she's going to be safe tonight, at least based on the performances so far. The coaches all pretty much like it, including Christina.
Dial me in
Adam and Wiz Khalifa perform "Payphone." Adam sings the lead and I love his voice so much! I've said it once and I'll say it again - Maroon 5 is one of my all time favorite bands!
Setting fire to the song
Erin Willet is up now and she lights up "Set Fire to the Rain." The coaches all say she's good and Erin gets emotional. It's fun to see Blake get on stage a blazin' with his team to belt out "Heartache Tonight."
iTunes star
It's Lindsey Pavao for Team Christina on stage now. She's doing Katy Perry's "Part of Me" and really, Lindsey can bring it. It's no wonder she's ahead of all the other The Voice competitors as far as iTunes is concerned. All the coaches praise Lindsey's efforts for the most part.
The odds have it
Phil Collins' "Against All Odds" is one of my favorite slow songs and Jermaine Paul does it justice. Coach Blake seems happy with it and the other coaches seem to pretty much like Jermaine's effort overall.
Last, but maybe one of the least
Chris Mann ends the live performances of the night. His version of Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" is entertaining, but I'm not totally sold. I think his voice wasn't as strong as many voices in the competition tonight. The coaches are all just a little underwhelmed too, even his coach, Christina..
Going home
I'm nervous about who will be going home. Christina chooses Jesse to leave and I was afraid of that! He was one of my favorites right from the beginning of the season, but I do know he wasn't up to par tonight. Blake picks Jordis to go home right when I finally loved her song! So much for saying she was "perfect," Blake!
What do you think about Jesse and Jordis being out of the race?
