Dueling Karpovskys
I've seen some decent independent films at the festival, including two starring Alex Karpovsky, who also appears on HBO's Girls, and will be in the next Coen brothers movie. In the droll comedy Supporting Characters, Karpovsky plays a film editor whose romantic and professional life are impacted when an actress develops a crush on him. Karpovsky directed and stars in Rubberneck, a far more serious film about a reclusive lab technician who becomes dangerously obsessed with an attractive co-worker. Based on a true story, the movie is an effectively disturbing but empathetic character study of a man losing his bearings.
