Fox Goes Ape Again with Rise Sequel
At CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, Fox executives announced to the assembled theater owners that they are going to make a sequel to their reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I had pretty low expectations for the first one, and was pleasantly surprised at how smart and diverting it was. CGI often looks cartoony, but the filmmakers really accomplished something in creating such a fully-drawn character in Caesar. I would assume that Andy Serkis will return in the role, but I suppose that with humanity on the brink of extinction at the end of Rise, there are a lot of directions the next one could go in.
