I liked the 1920s themed school dance tonight on The Vampire Diaries cuz dates Elena and Stefan were just the dreamiest. Caroline and Tyler and Bonnie and Jamie were all cute and cozy too, but it was difficult for anyone to have any fun for long what with hell literally breaking loose in the form of Esther!
From one brother to the other
Things start off comically for me (all in my own little head, I'm afraid) when Elena tells Caroline she doesn't know if she should take Caroline's advice to ask Stefan to the dance since she just made out with his brother. Yeah, but that was last episode, Elena, so you're okay. Caroline says she watches The Bachelor and really this is okay - ha ha! Elena does ask and of course, Stefan says yes and pins a pretty rosebud corsage to the strap of Elena's little flapper dress.

Damon shows up at the hospital carrying a little jar. Um, I always put mine in a little bag, Damon - have some class! Only it's okay, because it's not a urine sample, but Alaric's leftover herb stuff. Damon wants to get Meredith's advice on what to do to help Alaric now. Ironically, Alaric may have to be killed. Bourbon is going to do it. Ah, I love how everything weird makes perfect sense on The Vampire Diaries.
Dance with me or else
Even though it's a 1920's dance and there are short dresses and long strands of beads to prove it, the camera pans to a huge glittering disco ball. Ah, well, it is shiny and pretty even if it's from the wrong decade! Tyler shows up in a old fashioned mobster suit and shows off by picking Caroline up in his arms and spinning her all around the dance floor.
Caroline loves it and so do I. Then that rotten, no good (but incredibly handsome!) Klaus splits them up just because he can - and because he's got the hots for Caroline too, of course. Tyler is all powerless and dejected, but is back on the up end of the love rollercoaster when Caroline tells him later that it's gentle Tyler she loves, not bully Klaus.
Danceus interruptus
Then it's Damon's turn to interrupt the cutest dancing couple of the night, Stefan and Elena, who are slow dancing so sweetly together. But, it's not so much jealousy as needing to band together to stop that witch, Esther. Bonnie also gets torn away from the festivities to conjer up spells with Klaus breathing down her neck.
Jeremy just can't have any fun at all tonight either since he doesn't want his guardian, Alaric, to be killed. Elena is crying over it too and feels all alone in this world. (I do have to laugh though when Alaric thanks Damon later for killing him twice!) But, you know I just absolutely melt when Stefan tells Elena that she's not alone because she has him, Stefan! Awwww ....
We have the magic
Esther, still in Rebekah's body, gives Klaus a fake stake and stashes the real white oak stake out of his reach. Alaric has to stab Rebekah with the stake to release Esther. Esther uses Alaric's ring to meld it to the stake to keep the wood treasure safe. Meanwhile, Bonnie's spells aren't working as Klaus and Bonnie realize that Esther is too powerful for them.
Even later when Bonnie thinks she's overpowered Esther and things are okay, Esther comes to her in a dream while Bonnie is laying down all snuggled up in bed with Jamie. Then, Bonnie gets up and goes completely wonky like she's controlled by Esther in a trance.
Esther wants to give Alaric a makeover to "remake him.' That reminds me of The Six Million Dollar Man." Elena is freaking out and begs Alaric not to give in to Esther. Elena says to Esther that she's not going to give up her blood unless she's killed. The all powerful Oz - I mean Esther - says it isn't necessary as it isn't since she can do what Bonnie does - extract blood from people with just a little pointing!
Drop and give me forever
Esther tries to tell Elena that what she's doing with Alaric is a good thiing because then all of the vampires will be gone from the earth. Elena isn't buying that and is crying because Alaric is all crumpled up on the ground like a piece of litter. Later, still in a trance, Bonnie feeds Alaric her wrist blood and he bites her neck. Oh, oh ... it's the nasty crazy Alaric back again! But, the show ends, so we'll have to wait for next week.
I liked this episode of The Vampire Diaries and can't wait to see Alaric's alter ego go nuts next week. What did you think?
