Felicia Day guest stars as a nerdy super-hacker named Charlie.

All Roads Lead to Roman

With Bobby restored to visibility in the corporeal world, it's time to return to Season 7's overarching task at hand: the fight against neoconservative space cannibal Dick Roman. Sam and Dean learn from Bobby that Dick Roman has been digging archaeological sites.

Hacktivism

Across town, Dick Roman's Super PAC is hacked by a Romancorp IT super-nerd named Charlie (guest Felicia Day). Though Charlie's anti-authority hacking hobby gets her noticed by Dick, he's impressed rather than angry. Roman tasks Charlie with hacking Frank's dossier on him, leading Charlie to discover Roman's monster status. The intrusion alerts Sam and Dean, and they swoop in to get her on their side.

With Charlie's life on the line, she agrees to break into Roman's office and hack his private e-mail. Dean guides her through flirting her way past a guard, which is a bit awkward considering that neither of them are into men. Charlie manages to retrieve the data, revealing that Roman's digging operation just ended a few days ago: he's found something.

Dig It

Charlie arranges to reroute Dick's prized dig find -- what appears to be a hunk of red clay -- to Sam and Dean. She replaces it with a self-detonating cleaning fluid bomb, incapacitating Roman and allowing her to escape. Bobby holds the Leviathans off while they get away.

Considering how far in advance TV seasons are generally planned, Supernatural is scoring some excellent satirical election year zings. The framing of Leviathans as evil, corporate, murderous one-percenters is an excellent, timely development for the series -- for a show this pulpy and occasionally campy, it has one of the most interesting plotlines of the TV season.

Day was, of course, a delightful presence on the show. Hopefully we'll see more of her before the season is through.
