The specter of Adele is yet again cast over American Idol, as the montage tonight pays tribute to a few tired cliches of the photography world.
As we're down to five contestants, the bottom three officially becomes a bottom two.
Tonight, five becomes four.
Solitude
Joshua heads up alone at the start of the show for an early reprieve. Quite frankly, if he was in the bottom after his performances last night, this show would have been officially FUBAR. As much as I hate the Bee Gees, his performance of their song was stellar.
This week's Ford music video had the Idol Kids galavant about in creepy fantasy garb to some horrible song.
Do You Know How I Know You're...
The outrageously overrated British snooze sensation Coldplay takes the stage, and Chris Martin does what he does best: maintaining a pained look on his face like he's clenching back two days worth of burrito meals. This song is so absent of any point. It's a smooth, white wall: boring and featureless.
But Coldplay, for all their sleep-inducing attributes, are way more listenable than the bottom barrel pop lameness of Carrie Underwood, who decided to take quiet-to-loud singing to a whole new level that no one would want to join her on. If you didn't know, she was one of the winners on American Idol. And of course they took the asinine song literally and attempted to blow her off the stage with the aid of giant fans.
Hollie and Phillip are the next two to head up, which means exactly what you think it means, and Hollie is the first of the bottom two.
The last couple, Skylar and BB Chez head up, and it's not looking good for Skylar. And sure enough, Skylar is the second of the bottom two. As it should be.
Every great band deserves an encore, so for some bizarre reason, Coldplay takes the stage again.
I will admit that his guest spot on Extras was hilarious. But that was far more due to the writing talents of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
HELL YES
And Skylar is gone! America got it dead right this week, getting rid of the single remaining contestant that didn't belong in the company of the others. Anyone else going home tonight would have been wrong. Finally, no more songs are going to get needlessly countrified due to Skylar's lack of vocal flexibility.
And speaking of, I'll leave it to you to guess what genre her swan song was...
So long, Skylar. I will not miss you.
