Next week is the season finale of The Vampire Diaries and for all intents and purposes, this episode seemed to flow nicely into the preparation for that. The focus was on Elena and Klaus' attack on her which made for an exciting episode because the other characters were all involved in trying to rescue her.

"I'm not your little b*tch"

Even Tyler grew a pair tonight and stood up to Klaus. At first he was helping Klaus pack for Klaus' "road trip" which Klaus mentioned so often this episode that I almost hit the mute button. I'm so glad I didn't though as it was worth it to hear Tyler, after Klaus barked out orders to move things and get him empty blood bags, finally tell Klaus that he was tired of being his bitch! If Tyler hadn't done this and then worked at saving Elena from Klaus' clutches, she may have been a goner.

But wait, one attack at a time

Before Klaus took Elena and strapped her to a chair to get her blood out of her though, Alaric's crazy alter ego was doing a similar thing to Caroline. Caroline was standing there watching Rebekah clean up after the dance that Rebekah didn't even get to go to when Alaric showed up at the school and bound and gagged poor Caroline. Rebekah had to run to Klaus to tell him that Alaric is still alive and that he's so strong now, she couldn't fight him.

Everybody wants you

Alaric interrupts Elena's and Jeremey's painting of his old room by phoning Elena and demanding  her to get down to the classroom now. He instructs her not to tell anyone where she's going or he'll kill Caroline. That point seems moot since when Elena arrives there, Alaric demands that Elena kill Caroline herself!

Childish behavior

Jeremy, Stefan, Damon and Bonnie realize that Elena is gone and figure out where. They know everything which saves on plotting time! But, their discussion of what to do about this gets interrupted by Klaus at the front door. Damon and Stefan don't want whatever he's selling and slam the door on him. This won't stop Klaus though. He throws things through the windows to break them and shows up again with a gas can in one hand and a flaming newspaper in the other! Oh, Klaus, your antics amuse me so.

Work together people

Stefan and Damon then talk things out with Klaus on the porch. Klaus wants to take Elena with him  on, yes, his "road trip." Stefan tells Klaus that Klaus' plan to cause trouble between he and Damon isn't going to work anymore as they are closer than ever. Bonnie comes out there to say that she can probably do a spell on Alaric and soon Abby shows up to help her with it.

The host with the most

I love it when Damon offers Abby a drink of blood in a crystal glass and she stares at it a long time before declining. At least Damon is a good host - ha ha. The spell is supposed to stop a vampire's heart, Abby says, but the catch is that Bonnie will have to stop a human heart in return. Jeremy is the guinea pig for this! Klaus is still hanging around and he reminds everyone that he created their vampire bloodline, so no one better kill him or they'll all die soon after. Spoil sport!

School daze

Elena doesn't want to kill Caroline, but Bonnie's spell seems to be kicking in as it's Alaric who is screaming in pain now, not Caroline. Caroline runs out of the classroom after Elena unbinds her and Klaus is there in front of Caroline. He whispers to her to go home and be safe. Oh, Klaus has a crush on Caroline still!

Alaric is choking Elena. Somehow, this gives Elena more clarity, not less and she realizes that Esther wanted Alaric to stay in killer mode. This doesn't matter much now as Elena goes from the frying pan into the fire as Klaus takes her and starts draining out her blood into bags. Klaus says he's doing her a favor since when Elena is dead she'll no longer have to choose between Stefan and Damon. Oh yeah, you're a true saint, Klaus! This leads to the part where Tyler helps Elena after refusing to get more empty blood bags for Klaus. Yay, Tyler!

A life connected

What's really going on is that Esther connected Alaric's life to Elena's. Alaric manages to tell Damon and Stefan that Klaus is going to kill Elena, so they better get over there and save her. Thank you, Alaric! I also must thank Alaric for the laugh when he stirs things up at the council meeting by announcing to all that the mayor's daughter is a vampire and that her son is half-vampire, half werewolf!

Magic happens

After a few snags, Bonnie's spell works and Jeremy comes back to life. It's hilarious to see Klaus just gasp open-mouthed and glance around the room in a daze. I'm sure he'll be back for the finale though, despite the "Klaus-free" party that Caroline, Tyler, Bonnie and Jeremy throw later.

First, though, both Damon and Stefan walk Elena home and she tells them at the door that she's not trying to string them both along, but that if she picks one, she'll lose the other. The guys are going on the road together to make sure to get Klaus and dump him into the ocean and they tell Elena they'll call her. In the car, the brothers each vow to get out of town for awhile if Elena chooses the other. Aww ...

Paint till you faint

After the party is over and everyone goes home, Jeremy says goodnight to his sis. He says he never wants to lose her. Awww again. Elena does what I would probably do - stay up to finish painting. Only, she soon winces in pain and touches her head. Collapsing to the ground, Elena knocks the paint over and the episode is over too.

What do you hope happens next on The Vampire Diaries?

Quotes:

"That's what happens when you decide to paint your dead guardian's room in the middle of the night."

Jeremy

"Don't blame me. Blame Bonnie the blood bank."

Damon

"Stop trusting vampires!"

Alaric to Elena

"So, this is it? You're going to bleed me completely dry?"

Elena to Klaus

"What? I don't speak witch!"

Damon to Bonnie and Abby
