This was a fun episode of The Mentalist. Not only did Cho finally get the clue that Summer's not the girl for him, the main murder case involved an old flame of Lisbon's named Greg. Actually, Greg is her ex-fiance who is now married with three kids. It looked like maybe Greg could be the murderer of the young surfer, Jay Banner, found dead on the beach.
Surfer dude is dead
The team works on the case of a young, California surfer named Jay Banner who didn't come home last night. His two roommates, one male and one female, reported him missing and found his surfboard still on the beach. At the beach, Lisbon asks the roommates if Jay had any drug or relationship problems. The female roommate says she and Jay hooked up on and off.
In the distance, Jane looks funny in his dark suit jumping around on the beach. He finds a bunch of crabs crawling around in a cluster and what do you know - it's Jay Banner's dead body buried in the sand with only the face showing. Yuck!
Blast from the past
A blond male and female couple who own a marine salvage business near the beach where Jay was found are questioned by Jane and Lisbon. The male is Lisbon's ex fiance, Greg, which Jane finds amusing. As the four people talk together, one of Greg's cute blond daughters butts in to ask her dad for a little cash to go see a movie. After question period is over, Lisbon thanks Greg for his time which sounds a little cold since they were once engaged.
House call
Grace and Cho go to the house where Jay had lived and run into the landord. The landlord and Jay's roommates let Cho and Lisbon snoop around in Jay's room. Lisbon and Cho learn that one of the roommates who was surfing with Jay before he died saw a boat with no lights on near them which was strange.
Then Cho finds coke hidden in Jay's wall. Is Cho a drug sniffing dog? The drug has a lightning bolt on the wrapper. Cho phones Summer to ask her if she knows who sells this "brand" and she says actually she does.
One for the road
Summer decides to go to the dealer's house and ask about Jay. The dealer has at least 50 packs of lightning bolt marked coke on a nearby table. Yeah, right, most dealers are stupid enough to do this. The dealer blinks and Summer takes one of the drug packets. Later, Cho arrives home calling out for Summer. No, she's been killed by a drug dealer, Cho. Well, this is close as the dealer did beat her up badly.
Cho comforts Summer and later goes to beat up the dealer. The dealer says he only did it because Summer stole his "product." Summer's stupid enough to show Cho her stolen wrapper and she's acting all coked out. This is it for Cho and he sees her off on a train to Seattle. Yay!
Go for the gold
Jane and Lisbon find Greg on Jay's boat. It's called Hang Ten naturally. But they clear Greg and even Greg's wife who, as it turns out, had an affair with Jay that Greg knew about. Somehow, Jane figures out that whoever did kill Jay did so over gold.
He's not sure which one of the roommates did it though, so Jane tells both of them the treasure was moved. Whoever goes to see if it was actually moved is the killer Jane tells Lisbon. It's the landlord!
Yeah, right!
The rotten, greasy-haired landlord admits to the murder when Lisbon questions him. He says he's usually "a peaceful man." Yeah, right! He doesn't know what you call this situation, but he did it only because Jay wanted half of the gold. Lisbon says you call it "greed" and oh, that's funny! Later, Lisbon goes to visit Greg and tells him that he's not in trouble. Jane tells her Greg wasn't the right guy for her anyway and she agrees.
I loved this week's The Mentalist! What did you think?
