The Expendables 2 (opening August 17)
The Details: Well, you saw the original, right? This one is just like that, only more so. Led by Sylvester Stallone, all your favorite '80s action heroes -- plus relative fresh blood Jason Statham and Jet Li -- team up to fight the bad guys. Which bad guys? Who cares? Just go with it.
The Trailer: To quote that old SCTV sketch, things blow up good. Blow up REAL good. The explosions are interspersed with highly choreographed fight scenes and occasional quips. Can't have an '80s-style action flick without quips. Also, Arnold Schwarzenegger shoots a machine gun from inside the passenger seat of a SmartCar, so there's that.
What's the Buzz: By the end of summer, you just want to turn your brain off and cruise for a couple hours. The original The Expendables did a fine job of facilitating that, and this appears to provide more of the same. But the pleasant surprise of the first film was that it actually was a fun, brainless thrill ride. This one won't have that element of surprise.
