Last week, the brothers Winchester scored a coup over Leviathan neocon Dick Roman when they found a reluctant Keeper of the Word named Kevin. This week, Kevin is in Dick's hands, leaving both sides in a race for a magical Leviathan-killing concoction.
Some Assembly Required
Before his abduction, Kevin had revealed that Leviathans could be slain by the bone of a righteous mortal in the blood of the three fallens. Bobby suggests that the boys recruit Crowley, who agrees to donate his blood to the cause as soon as they have all the other pieces assembled.
Corporate Bloodsuckers
Roman, meanwhile, has used his corporate influence to begin pumping a potent neutralizer into all food with hydrogenated corn syrup, thus turning huge swaths of America into zombies. Upon further investigation, Sam and Dean discover that the agent is also affecting vampires: whenever they feed on afflicted humans, the vampires die.
Alpha Protocol
When Sam and Dean meet with the Alpha Vampire to discuss the issue, the Alpha is understandably skeptical of their assistance. The Winchesters admit that they don't like helping vamps, but that they don't have many options: the Alpha's blood will help them defeat the Leviathans, and that's the most important issue. The Alpha is unmoved.
One Step Closer
When he seeks assurances from the Leviathans, however, the Alpha learns that the Winchesters were telling the truth. The Leviathan attacks the Alpha, and he's only saved by Sam and Dean's intervention. With the blood of the Alpha drawn, they're one step closer to defeating the Leviathan's for good.
This episode benefited enormously from the smooth performance of Rick Worthy as the Alpha--he's only been in three episodes before this one, but his promise to "see you next season" is a welcome assurance. There's now only one episode left in the season, and still a whole lot left to resolve.
