If you haven`t seen the finale of NCIS season 9, yet, it`s best to stop reading, although I`m going to save the biggest spoiler that still has me in a spin for the very end as that`s how it was done in the show.Although the Harper Dearing navy terrorism story has been carried on now across several episodes, for the finale it escalates as Dearing attacks the NCIS big time. Gibbs and company just can`t seem to catch this guy. Even Dr. Sam`s elaborate computer profiling system she calls Lucy seems like a toy compared to Dearing`s power
Walk like an Egyptian
Dearing had kidnapped Vance and now Vance wakes up in a coffin with a mummfied body next to him. Well, I guess that`s better than being the mummfied body. Vance finds a note there that reads `Your king is vulnerable`and this doesn`t look good. Harper Dearing is sure having his sick fun.
Ducky identifies a jaw bone and Dr. Sam says it`s a Bible reference about `finding the jawbone of an ass.` Later, Abby discovers it`s really a horse jaw and if they can find the horse, they`ll be closer to Dearing. Yeah, that sounds a little far fetched, but it`s a good excuse to get out to the country.
Greener pastures
The team investigates outside in the peaceful countryside with nothing but white-fenced meadows and a few houses. Gibbs frowns as he watches the horses run, then goes to the house nearby yelling for Larson. It`s too late for whatever Gibbs did realize, because the house goes up in flames and Larson with it. It`s gross when Ducky and Jimmy have to pick little pieces of Larson`s dinner plates out of his skin as that`s what happened in the explosion.
The party`s over
None of his co-workers are now able, because of Dearing`s sick antics, to attend Jimmy`s wedding, but Ducky says he will go to Florida or wherever he has to becasue Jimmy is like family. They hug. The others are really sad about not going, well Ziva and Abby mostly. Ziva gives Jimmy the wrapped gift she had for him. It`s a set of Israeli sheets. I love it when Ziva says they are for sleeping like a baby or maybe making a baby - ha ha.
Son of Sam
Gibbs goes into Samantha`s office to talk to her about the case, but the chair turns around and it`s her son, Parker. This is the first time they meet and yeah, just stop staring at the kid, Gibbs. Sam comes back and jokes that Parker probably has more security clearance than Gibbs. Ouch. I was getting a little worried that in the last episode Sam may be somehow involved, indirectly, in a forced way, in the Navy terrorism, but it`s just not the case. Yay!
Well, at least it doesn`t seem to be. She works hard trying to profile Dearing to get to him, but it`s the other way around. Dearing actually scares tough Sam off the case when he gets her scary ex husband released from jail. Sam has to protect Parker after all even though Harper Dearing calls her `weak.`.
On the big screen
On screen is as close as the NCIS team can get to Dearing, as frustrating as that is for Gibbs. He has to be the strong one in all this and even tells Vance they have to hit back hard. Gibbs tries everything though, but Dearing is too diabolically smart which is too bad because people keep dying. Gibbs speaks to Dearing`s ex-wife who says that their son, Evan`s, death `destroyed`Harper Dearing. This is Dearing`s beef wth the Navy and why he is killing, but yeah, it`s still an excuse to be evil.
Close to home
Jimmy`s wife to be is sweet and really seems to love him. She understand Jimmy`s work is tough right now and they can celebrate another time. Jimmy suggests just getting married quickly and she agrees. Jimmy adds that Ducky is like family to him. Awww ...
It`s the bomb
Harper wasn`t joking. There are bombs planted and the whole NCIS and the people in it are in danger. Gibbs yells for Vance to call the bomb squad as he rushes to protect Abby who is nearby. Tony is stuck on the elevator wtih Ziva. McGee was closer to the center of the explosion, but he seems to just have some injuries.
Ducky by the water
Ducky is dressed in his suit for Jimmy. When his cell phone rings, he finds out about the attack on NCIS. This seems to set off a heart attack! Ducky winces in pain and falls to his knees before competely collapsing in the sand. The beach is deserted and the show actually ends right here! Thanks a lot, NCIS. The vision of poor Dr. Mallard laying there on the brink of death all alone haunted me for a few hours. Still, I think someone will get to Ducky in time as season 10 starts.
