Simon Cowell fired Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger from his reality singing show, The X Factor, and replaced them with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato. This gets us wondering if Randy Jackson on American Idol could find himself losing his judging chair to a younger female singer. Here are five candidates who might be able to do the job (but, that said, we'd miss The Dawg too much!):

This is our favorite pick. You could just see her and Jennifer Lopez trying not to get into a quiet, hissing cat fight about some imagined snub or the other hogging the spotlight. Also, personality wise, Rihanna's a lot like Steven Tyler - provocative and sultry - so they'd bookend Ms. Lopez well and maybe even cause Jen to just shut up and look pretty.
Cool, funky Katy Perry could bring new energy to the Idol coaching team. Even her ever-changing, innovative eyewear collection would liven things up. But, she's also bound to be able to offer a lot of advice and insight to the young pop star wannabes. Would Jennifer and Steven love her or hate her though?
Idol graduate and superstar Carrie Underwood would probably be signed on as a judge in a heartbeat. Winning American Idol as well as competing through all the stages to get there gives her huge value as a supportive judge for the contestants. Plus yeah, she's a constructive type of person who would probably get along with both Steven and Jennifer, yet also still create an exciting dynamic.
Like Carrie, Jennifer Hudson's experience on American Idol and rise to fame - in her case, as a singer and an award winning actress - would make her a perfect judge. She's also likely to have the 'get along well with the other judges' vibe.
Don't you think that Idol would attract a whole new set of viewers with Lady Gaga as a judge? She'd probably set new trends right on the show. This woman can really sing too and would likely provide some great inspiration for the contestants. Just please, nothing like a dress made out of meat again ...
