Everyone loves to debate the read-it-first or watch-it-first mentality over Hollywood's book-to-film adaptations. Let's check out where the latest ones stand:

The Great Gatsby

Rejoice, high school Lit students, you're gonna get to skip reading yet another one of your assigned novels once Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby drops this Christmas. Maybe the Mayans were right... because if the trailer for this says anything to me, it says "Please, PLEASE Read The Novel One More Time Before This Gets Possessed By Cheap Hollywood Hacks." Gatsby is one of the greatest novels in American history, and if you wait to read it till seeing the film, you're doing it wrong.

Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton in 'The Great Gatsby' (Warner Bros.)
