This image released by HBO shows, from left, Anna Paquin, Carrie Preston and Sam Trammell in a scene from the HBO original series, "True Blood." The network's hit vampire drama will be coming back for a sixth season next year, HBO announced on Monday, July 2, 2012. Its stars include Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. Another HBO series, "The Newsroom," will also be returning for another season. (AP Photo/HBO, John P. Johnson)

An attractive gang of supernatural hunters and their lovable dog travel around in a van looking to solve a mystery. No, it's not an episode of Scooby-Doo, it's last night's True Blood. But it awfully felt a lot like the classic Saturday morning cartoon.

He's Back!

The Mystery Gang of Sookie (Anna Paquin), Bill (Stephen Moyer), Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Alcide (Joe Manganiello) are on the trail of the recently exhumed vampire elder, Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare). Unfortunately, Eric and Bill are (un)living on borrowed time; they have until sunrise to find their target before the Authority executes them. Doubly unfortunate is when they do discover Russell's location, he's nearly fully restored. But before Eric can stake him, Alcide is suddenly yanked from behind by an unknown assailant.

BFF's or Frenemies?

Tara (Rutina Wesley) is still experiencing growing pains, having trouble coming to terms with her newfound nocturnal lifestyle. Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten is no help, so who better to help her through her transition than Jessica (Deborah Ann Wolfe)? The two share a moment when they discuss issues newborn vampires go through, like fighting the urge to bite people's faces off. It looks like they're going to get along, until Jessica catches Tara feeding on her ex-boyfriend, Hoyt (Jim Parrack). Predictably, yet amazingly, a catfight ensues!

Playing with Fire

Terry Bellefleur (Todd Lowe) and Patrick Devins (Scott Foley) are trapped in a bomb shelter with their former squadmate, Brian Eller (Brian Geraghty). Brian tells them he's not the arsonist they're after, but rather a fire demon called an Ifrit. In yet another flashback, Terry remembers seeing the demon after being cursed by one of the innocent victims caught in the crossfire during their tour of duty. Terry and Patrick turn the tables on Brian and manage to escape, but it looks like Brian meets his fiery demise when the Ifrit finally catches up with him.

Hunted

Sam (Sam Trammell) was shaken up after seeing his two shifter friends murdered in cold blood last week. He goes to inform Luna (Janina Gavankar) of the tragic news, but the murderous mob that killed their friends show up at her front doorstep. Sam and Luna are gunned down, while Luna's daughter Emma (Chloe Noelle) manages to escape as she transforms into a wolf.

As usual, last night's episode left us with a couple of cliffhangers and a lot of questions that need answering. Will Luna and Sam survive? What's going to happen to Sookie and her entourage of hotties? And why in the world is Jesús' head popping up on Lafayette's and his mom's tables?

Best Lines:

"We say goodbye, and the next thing you guys are back in my house and a 3,000 year-old vampire wants to suck my blood. It must be Thursday!"

--Sookie on her adventurous lifestyle.

"If I wanted to look like a drag queen, I would've raided Lafayette's closet."

--Tara in response to Pam's approval of her new clothes.

"New York City smells like pee and the people are rude."

--Eric's sympathetic view about Doug's lifelong regret about not visiting the Big Apple.

"You sure know how to treat a lady."

--Eric to Alcide, after Sookie throws up on his feet.
