Harvey DOES own other clothes besides a suit! He takes a rare day off and rides the train out of the city dressed in khakis and a collared, button-down shirt under a thin sweater. He's watching the scenery pass by, and it's like he's reflecting on the past, specifically five years ago, which provides a lot of answers and insight into story lines and characters.
Five years ago, Mike's a bike messenger living with Travis, Harvey isn't a senior partner and Louis' gets a secretary named Norma -- Donna doesn't think she'll last a week. I guess the only way to bring back Donna was to turn back the lock.
Catching a Crook
It's five years ago and someone's been stealing from the firm, so Jessica enlists Harvey to get answers. When he first reviews evidence, he believes it's Louis. After all, Louis spend $15,000 on braces. Louis had braces! When Jessica confronts him, he admits to random things like falling asleep on her couch -- but not stealing from the firm. And we know it couldn't be him because as much as we love/hate him, he would never do such a thing. So Harvey then turns to Louis himself for help, where we see Harvey finding out about Louis' ability to follow the money trail and find what other people cannot see.
And what Louis finds is that Daniel Hardman, managing partner at the time, has been moving money different accounts!
The Mystery Woman
Present day Mike is trying to track down a former firm employee, Monica. We see Monica in the past as a senior associate. Present day, Monica is working retail after being fired. Mike wants her to file a wrongful termination suit, but she's wanting none of it, instead of wanting to keep it in the past. What's her deal?
A Cheater is Born
Five years ago, Mike and Trevor are at the bar trying to pick up two girls -- one of them being Jenny! Mike eyes her first but Trevor is the one to actually make a movie, leaving Mike with Nicky. Or rather, Nicky went after Mike first because she knew he was a genius -- and offers him $1,000 to take the LSATs for her. Disgusted, Mike says no. But that same night, his grandmother, who's at home by herself five years ago, hurts herself from falling. Distraught, he tells Nicky he'll only do it for $5,000. And ... the rest they say is history.
Another Piece to the Puzzle
Jessica confronts Daniel about stealing from the company, and he admits to her that his wife is dying of breast cancer. Harvey wants him out but Jessica won't let that happen since she owes her career to him. With Donna's help, Harvey blackmails Hardman when he catches Hardman and ... Monica (!) in a hotel room together. I definitely did not seeing that coming, but I love it. So that is how Jessica takes over the firm and how Monica is fired -- because how is Monica supposed to convince a jury that as a Harvard grad, she had no idea that the man she's been sleeping with was embezzling money from the company?
Highs and Lows
Back in the past, Harvey gets made senior partner, and gets the huge office that used to be Jessica's. But the celebration is cut short when Donna delivers the news that Harvey's father has passed away from a heart attack. It was a poignant scene, where one moment he's celebrating and the next, he's grieving.
Back in present day, Harvey is off the train. He goes to his father's grave -- and pours two shots. Leaving one for his father while taking one for himself. When he returns to the city, he vows to Donna that he's going to get Donna back!
