Total Recall
I can think of no better way to honor Sherman Hemsley than to feature him in a bad cereal commercial from the 80s. OK, I can think of about a million better ways -- but this is my job, so back off. I never thought of George Jefferson as a Raisin Bran man, but I guess I don't have to anymore now that I know he switched to Total all those years ago.
What Is -- A Bad Commercial?
Commercials don't have to be old to be horrible. Here, Alex Trebek and his mustache make their triumphant return with their trademark combination of annoying smarminess and know-it-all-ness. It is good to see that Alex is doing better after his heart attack, and he is making wholesome snacking choices as well.
Virtual Insanity
Speaking of really bad modern-day commercials -- here's everyone's favorite dork, Zooey Deschanel, wasting both Siri's and my time by asking what the weather is while in front of a rain-soaked window. And I hope you're sitting down for this folks -- Zooey sings! We get it. Another thing that we all get at this point ($400 later) is that Siri sucks.
Beam Us Up, Bill
It looks like William Shatner has a long, storied history of pretty bad commercials. Here's one that features even more dated technology than from his run on Star Trek. Revolutionary at the time, the Commodore VIC-20 is so ancient now -- much like Shatner himself. Fortunately, he would go on to not wow us in even worse commercials for Priceline.
I See Dragons
Rounding out this week's top five is a 1992 Kraft Cheese commercial with Haley Joel Osment. Even back then he was seeing things that didn't really exist -- although in this case, it's cartoon dragons and not a deceased Bruce Willis. Did we ever consider that maybe M. Night Shyamalan is not a genius at all -- and perhaps Haley Joel has just been a huge stoner from a very young age?
