Yesterday was National Senior Citizens Day, and it was rather fitting to have one of the cast members of the top movie in America (The Expendables 2) make an appearance last night on The Tonight Show.
A Tussle with the Muscles from Brussels
Eighties action star Jean-Claude Van Damme was welcomed to the NBC studios with a standing ovation last night. The Belgian martial artist even received respect from co-guest Shia LaBeouf. Despite the warm welcome, Van Damme was a bit icy. When Leno showed a clip as the "Gay Karate Man" from his debut movie, Monaco Forever, he barely registered any emotion. Perhaps the expressionless facade was due to a botched Botox procedure, but Van Damme claimed he doesn't go for any plastic surgery. Then he explained that during the filming of The Expendables 2, he had to distance himself from the other actors to help him play the role as the movie's villain. He said he might have come off as snobby at times, but that may have just been him being Frenchy. Still, it's great to see him still able to pull off those incredible splits and roundhouse kicks.
