So, America's favorite male and female dancer were announced during a storm of multicolored confetti on this week's season finale of So You Think You Can Dance. Many of the moments leading up to that were emotional, and therefore fun, as finalists Cyrus, Eliana, Keone and Tiffany waited with baited breath (and perhaps very nervous jazz hands) to get the results of America's deciding vote.
Double and Trouble
It seems the finale episode somehow deserved to have six judges crammed into the judging seats rather than the usual three because that's what we have tonight. Joining regulars Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy are Adam Shackman, Debbie Allen, Lil'C and Tyce Diorio.
In other news, host Cat Deeley looks refreshing and sparkling tonight in a short, glittery silver dress with her bright blonde hair worn long and straight. Harshly, we go from that to a really creepy opening number with chilling music and dancers lurching around in big, black cloak-like garments. Did Tim Burton and Johnny Depp choreograph this?
I Must Remember This
Like Mary, one of my super favorite moments from this season of So You Think You Can Dance is Tiffany dancing to Celine Dion's "The Power of Love." This was so beautiful with her graceful moves and the setting of tiny white lights like hundreds of little stars. Nigel says he loved the Titanic dance number the most this season. He also repeats that Eliana is his favorite girl dancer because she can go from jazz hands to a Holocaust dance routine without blinking an eye. We know, Nigel, we remember you saying this every show.
It is fun to see clips of some of this season's auditions though. Leroy Martinez, the chubby, yet talented, dancer who proudly exclaims that he is the only male in his family not to end up on drugs or in jail, is shown in a clip and I'm glad the audience and judges love this guy. He gives all the George Costanzas of the world some hope in their dancing ability.
Poker, Robots and Sugar
I sit amazed at the sit down poker game turned into a full out dance number. Imagine if this really happened in real life? You could dance around the table and see the still-seated players' cards. Poker and dance together? Who'd have thunk it? Well, it does work in getting us ready for Cyrus walking like Frankenstein, I mean dancing, with all star Twitch who does exactly the same thing. Oh yeah, the guys wear space suits as the song, "Like a Criminal" plays which is more than a little chaotic and confusing.
To add contrast to confusion, sweet, sugary, songstress, Carly Rae Jepsen, comes out to sing. Yes, we have a singer on a dancing show. Well, Carly Rae's manager is doing a splendid job as that girl is everywhere on TV these days. Maybe she will sing on the Survivor premiere tomorrow night too.
Get Ready for the Confetti
All right. The confetti moment is here. Keone, Tiffany, Cyrus and Eliana look wired and so nervous as they await their verdict. I hope Tiffany and Keone win.
Keone does win, but Nigel's favorite, Eliana, grabs the win for the girls. Luckily, we can't see Cyrus and Tiffany through the zillions of tiny, colored confetti pieces flying on the stage. They must be crushed, but they still did so well getting that far.
What are your thoughts on the winners and this season of So You Think You Can Dance?
