Don’t Trust the B in Apt 23 starring Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker and James Van Der Beek airs on ABC Tuesdays at 9:30pm ET
Chloe's Thanksgiving tradition
Chloe (Krysten Ritter) spends the morning calling her married lovers, while they're home with their families to freak them out - her Thanksgiving tradition. June (Dreama Walker) asks Chloe if she feels bad for ruining the men's holiday. C'mon this is Chloe we're talking about - of course she doesn't. In fact, she doesn't even like Thanksgiving. In her opinion, it's a fake holiday. June, on the other hand, loves Thanksgiving. She was going to spend the holiday in Indiana with her family, but couldn't afford a flight home. Chloe doesn't want to go home for Thanksgiving because her mom will put on a show for their guests, but everyone knows it's a lie because they've been having a hard time ever since her dad cheated on her with June.
Celebrity Soup Kitchen
When James (James Van Der Beek) tells Chloe and June that he plans to volunteer at an exclusive celebrity soup kitchen, June asks to tag along. He informs her that you need a reservation if you want PEOPLE to take your photo with the homeless. At 78th street shelter, James graciously serves up food for the homeless at the shelter in front of the cameras. When the photographers spot an Olsen twin and forget about James, he quickly drops his serving spoon and leaves the shelter with Luther (Ray Ford)
Back at home, James tells Luther he never wants to be homeless so he should buy a second house as a back-up. The men are unpleasantly surprised when two men from the shelter show up to inform them they must come back and finish their shift. When James attempts to talk himself out of going back, the men threaten to tell PEOPLE Magazine that James Van Der Beek "ladled and left." He wisely chooses to go back to the shelter with Luther. Back at the shelter, James is pushed outside his comfort zone when he must eat lunch at the shelter. He later cracks; picking a fight with a homeless man he believes stole his jacket. At the end of the day, James learns he lost two pounds on the fattest day of the year and had successfully "negated the Christmas gain."
A Thanksgiving Lie
Chloe convinces June to come with her to her parents' house for Thanksgiving - in a wheelchair. Why? Because her mom, Karen, who is in a wheelchair knows June is the one who almost had an affair with her husband. Plus she needs an emotional Sacagawea so she can spend some real time with her parents. June reluctantly agrees.
With Karen overly nice and Scott overly awkward, June starts drinking heavily. Chloe freaks out after a run in with her mother, telling June she is supposed to stop her from getting in a fight with her mom. June tells her that her mother is not the one with the problem, but it's her father who has a real problem. She believes Scott is purposely avoiding her because she's in a wheelchair.
It's a Miracle
At dinner, Chloe outs the fact that June is not really injured and is faking needing to be in a wheelchair. When her mother doesn't believe her, Chloe pulls June out of the wheel chair causing her to fall to the ground. June stands up and awkwardly proclaims the use of her legs to be a miracle. She apologizes to Karen, saying she only got in the chair so she would "forgive her for dry humping her husband." June quickly learns that Karen didn't know about her. Needless to say, no one is surprised when Karen kicks June out.
Chloe joins June on the street and informs her that she must pretend to tell her she is moving out. Oh, and she's also $2,000 richer. As it turns out she had planned the whole elaborate scheme to manipulate her parents for money. She gives June $1,000 to go home to Indiana for Christmas. June apologizes for ruining Thanksgiving and Chloe tells her it was the best Thanksgiving she has ever had with her family.
