In "Whatever It Takes…,” Chloe (Krysten Ritter) shows June (Dreama Walker) how to "network" in the financial district. Of course, as we all know by now, Chloe's idea of networking is getting totally wasted. Yet somehow she finds a hot young broker with a Wall Street mogul for a father and a job offer for June. Meanwhile, when James (James Van Der Beek) is paired with the worst dancer on Dancing with the Stars (guest star Missi Pyle), he tries to make a trade with arch-nemesis Dean Cain.
Don’t Trust the B in Apt 23 starring Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker and James Van Der Beek airs on ABC Tuesdays at 9:30 pm ET.
Making Connections and Creating Opportunities
Chloe (Krysten Ritter) spends her nights partying and her days sleeping it off, while June (Dreama Walker) eats. Eventually, the roommates decide to sound off on each other's problem at the same time. June feels that Chloe's partying has gotten out of control, but Chloe assures her she isn't partying. She's simply making connections and creating opportunities. Chloe may not have a problem in her own eyes, but June does - constantly eating. She tells June she needs to put down the food and make things happen for herself. June tells Chloe it's no use because she has been up and down Wall Street with her resume and cannot get an interview. That's when Chloe hits her with a new approach - "networking" i.e. drinking her way through the financial district.
The roommates hit up the bars before the New York Stock Exchange closes in an effort to score a job for June. June decides she isn't going to drink her way into a job and goes home. Chloe stays behind and hooks up with Trey (Thomas Lennon), a hot (or so she thinks) stock broker for Sharp Financial Management. The next morning June gets a phone call for an interview with Sharp Financial Management. At the interview, June gets hired for one reason and one reason only - Trey, a.k.a. the boss's son, is smitten with Chloe. June meets Trey and realizes he's not up to Chloe's mental or physical standards. In order to keep her new job, June must keep Chloe from breaking up with Trey. She's then faced with a moral dilemma - does she tell Chloe the truth or keep her drunk enough to look at Trey through martini goggles?
It's All Happening
James stops by Apartment 23 during one of June's daily webcam chats with her mother, Connie. Connie tells James that she read he is going to be a contestant on Dancing with the Stars and thinks he is going to win - his only real competition being Dean Cain.
The time comes for James to meet his new partner, but when he opens the door he finds Angie Beckincourt – an eight time Dancing with the Stars loser. He slams the door in her face out of frustration. Connie informs James that she read that Angie was trying to get financing for an Eskimo movie she wants to star in. She then hits him with the news that Dean Cain is dancing with champion Karina Smirnoff.
James Van Der Beek vs Dean Cain
James offers to trade Dean Cain his time share on the Mexican Riviera for his DWTS partner. Naturally, Dean, who realizes James is only offering because his partner is a eight time loser, refuses. James, not wanting to make a fool out of himself on national TV, realizes he needs to do whatever he can to win - including getting rid of Angie.
After Connie convinces James to anonymously invest in her movie, Angie shows up at his apartment to say goodbye - she's leaving for Greenland to begin filming. Connie's advice well spent by James.
Martini Glasses Off, Money Glasses On
June's plan to keep Chloe drunk until she signs her contract backfires when she comes home to find Chloe on the couch eating and watching TV sober. June resorts to drastic measures and asks crazy Chloe-obsessed neighbor Robin (Liza Lapira) for help. Robin agrees under one condition, she gets to go out with them. So they hit the bar scene with Chloe, Mark (Eric Andre), and Trey.
The next day, Chloe walks in completely sober just as Mr. Sharp welcomes June to the company with a champagne toast. She proceeds to kiss Trey sans martini goggles. As it turns out, she took off her martini goggles and put on her money goggles when she found out Trey was worth $3.2 million. It was a win win situation. That was until Trey's wife and son showed up. Mr. Sharp informed June that most of the brokers have extramarital affairs and it's refreshing to have a woman around who understands. Unwilling to sacrifice her integrity for a job, even her dream job, June quits. She convinces Chloe to take off her money goggles and the roommates leave together.
