It’s not easy to keep the romance going after a few years of marriage and a couple of kids. But there are things worse than a lack of romance; including being given a cute couple nickname like “Nemily.”
Guys With Kids starring Anthony Anderson and Jesse Bradford airs on NBC Mondays at 8:30 pm ET.
What Did We Do Last Night? And Why Was I Riding The Christmas Tree?
Gary (Anthony Anderson) and Marny (Tempestt Bledsoe) wake up in their apartment with horrible hangovers. The apartment is a mess and Gary is sleeping on the kitchen floor. They don’t remember much about the night before and aren’t sure where their kids might be. Nick (Zach Cregger) and Emily (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) show up with the missing children and Marny’s bra. They’re mad and leave angry without any explanation.
Flashback to one week ago and Gary, Marney and Chris (Jesse Bradford) wait to see what astoundingly cute Christmas outfits Nick and Emily are wearing. They’re dressed as pilgrims although when Sheila (Erinn Hayes) shows up she describes Nick as a leprechaun pimp. Chris and Sheila reminisce about the fact that the year before, they had gotten a divorce for each other’s present.
There’s Nothing Like Getting Romantic Advice From The Cutest Couple in the World
Gary and Marny tell the group that for their Christmas present, they bought a dishwasher. That motivates Nick and Emily to try and convince them to bring some romance into their lives. They offer to set up the perfect date night for Gary and Marny. In the category of things that aren’t romantic, Sheila tells Chris the next day that she wants to give back her engagement ring. He wants her to have it and that is going to open up a relentless competition to decide who can be tricked into keeping it. The ring pops out of a jack-in-the-box, a box of cereal and it’s even delivered by a stray dog. Meanwhile Gary and Marney are out on Emily’s favorite date, a carriage ride through the park. They hate it so much they jump out and head to a bar to drink a bit.
Well, Our Christmas Tree Was Getting to be a Bit Too Family Friendly
Gary and Marny show up drunk at Nick and Emily’s. Emily offers to watch their kids until the morning and everything goes well until Gary admits that they didn’t enjoy the carriage ride. Marny takes off her bra and throws it on Christmas tree and Gary reveals that everyone else calls Nick and Emily by the nickname “Nemily.” Gary tells them they’re trying too hard to be cute and everyone gets tired of it just a bit. Flash forward to the drunken aftermath and Gary and Marny are appalled to discover what they’ve said the night before. Nick and Emily confront Chris about the nickname and he’s unable to say anything.
What’s The Lie Every Man Tells His Wife-To-Be? No, the Other One
Nick and Emily are still angry but as they talk they admit that maybe they are trying a bit too hard. He says the carriage ride isn’t his “favorite thing.” Emily worries that they’ll turn into her parents and he tells her that will never happen. But he says that maybe not everything they do needs to be over the top.
They go to Gary and Marny’s and admit that maybe they have been a bit hard to take at times. Chris is cutting a turkey and discovers the ring inside. Sheila laughs that she wins and runs outside. She tells him she doesn’t want it because she says she realizes that the divorce was her fault. Chris tells her the ring is a symbol of the best gift they’ve ever given each other – the divorce. She takes it and as she enters the elevator she says “You win. I will keep that $45,000 ring.” “That’s what I told you it costs,” Chris snickers as he walks away.
