After suffering an unpleasant situation, Whitney (Whitney Cummings) and Alex (Chris D'Elia) realized they could avoid a lot of future arguments by refusing to tell "little white lies." Instead, they come clean about any and everything, whether it’s a past or present lie in order to keep from fighting. The only trouble is the new strategy causes more trouble than it's worth.
Whitney starring Whitney Cummings and Chris D'Elia airs on NBC Wednesdays at 8:00 pm ET.
To Tell the Truth
Whitney and Alex are committed to telling each other the truth until their new strategy sours. While at the bar, Roxanne and Lily are surprised to learn about Whitney's and Alex's new truth-telling ways and decide to question whether they have truly revealed all falsehoods. The friends called out a number of lies they knew Whitney had told over the years and she readily admitted to the falsehoods.
Things were going smoothly until Lily asked Alex if Whitney told him she lied about being in a coma. His reaction was enough to let everyone know she hadn't come clean. The lie was hurtful as Whitney revealed that during the early part of their relationship, she felt she was being smothered and lied to Alex to avoid seeing him.
Lies, Lies and More Lies
The news that Whitney had lied about something as serious as a coma set Alex into a state of disbelief. While Alex was shocked at first, he and Whitney talked and worked through their issues. Just as they kicked back and laughed about the ridiculousness of the lie, Lily showed up to apologize. Uh oh! Things became really tense.
Lilly stated, "You guys, I am so sorry. I just assumed you knew about the coma since that's why you lied about Kevin.”
Is it hot in here?
Alex responded, "Who's Kevin?"
To which Lily ran back into the bar.
The Truth Hurts
Whitney came clean with the truth about Kevin and wow, what a doozie! Not only had Whitney lied about the coma, but she had been in a serious relationship for a year and a half with a guy named Kevin when she met Alex. Imagine this from Alex's point of view! Here he thought he met the woman of his dreams, who was leaving for important medical care, only to learn that she had actually cheated on her boyfriend with him, then left town to be with him at his sister's wedding!
While Alex definitely had a load to deal with, he leveled the playing field.
It turned out that Alex had company the weekend Whitney spent with Kevin. He was with another girl!
Little White Lies are Better than a Whole Lot of Truth
After coming to the realization that the entire premise for their relationship was founded upon a lie, Whitney and Alex decided that telling white lies wasn't such a bad thing after all. The storyline also showed how the characters are well suited for each other as both tend to think alike. The two ended the conversation in the sweet, yet sassy manner that is common with Whitney and Alex.
After vowing not to tell the truth anymore, they decided to get one last zinger in. Whitney confessed to Alex that she really didn't love him. Alex returned the sentiment by telling her he didn't love her too and then the couple kissed.
Whitney Cummings seems to be taking over the airwaves. In addition to Whitney, she executive produces CBS' 2 Broke Girls and is the star of her own talk show Love You, Mean It.
What do you think of Whitney? Do you like the show?

"Look at you Alex, finally dating a white girl!"
"R.J., you want to help me move the bar outside so these two can have a moment alone?"
"That was such a stupid lie."
"I know. Only an idiot would believe that."
