As Last Resort moves towards its final episode each remaining hour is both bittersweet and captivating. The big question now is how much viewers will learn about the conspiracy before the show is gone forever.
Last Resort starring Andre Braugher and Daniel Lissing airs on ABC Thursdays at 8:00 pm ET.
The Family Reunion Goes Astray….Again
The family boat sails towards San Marina. The last of the military escort withdraws and within a couple of hours the crewmen will see their families. Kylie Sinclair (Autumn Reeser) secretly calls for XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) and tells him that the best chance to get back home is to find the info being carried by the SEALs on the island. Suddenly the family boat is boarded by members of the Pakistani Navy. The captain of the attackers radios the island and says he wants the captain to come out to the boat. Pilar Cortez (Jessica Camacho) retrieves the launch key from its hiding place. The Pakistani captain boards the sub and demands the captain launch a nuclear weapon at the Kashmir/Pakistan border or they will begin executing hostages. Captain Chaplin (Andre Braugher) tries to stall and one hostage is shot and thrown overboard.
A Mystery is Revealed and Some Serious Butt is Kicked
On the sub, SEAL Officer James King (Daniel Lissing) sees the Pakistani captain and seems to recognize him. He thinks back to
part of his mission in Pakistan. The mission seems to be an effort to record a fictional discovery of nuclear materials in Pakistan. He then makes his way to the rest of the SEALs, where they are planning an assault on the family boat by swimming out the sub’s torpedo tube and boarding the boat from behind. In another 30 minutes a hostage will be killed and Capt. Chaplin tries to delay the next execution until the SEALs can make their move. The Pakistani captain agrees to give him some time and calls to his second-in-command on the boat. The man ignores him and shoots another hostage. The SEALS board the boat and begin killing the invaders at the back of the boat. King sees the second-in-command and realizes its the same man who was there in Pakistan when their mission went wrong.
When I Said I’d Die For You I Wasn’t Being Literal
One of the terrorists discovers a photo journalist on board the boat is Indian and threatens to shoot her. She reveals Christine is on board and he then plans to shoot her instead. Lt. Grace Shepard (Daisy Betts) goes to the Captain’s room to call the SEAL squad and she discovers the missing launch key hanging on a hook.
Back on the boat Paul Wells (Jay Hernandez) tries to intervene on Christine’s behalf and is shot in the chest. Christine holds Paul as he is dying and as he does she kisses him. Chaplin begins to admit to the Pakistani Captain he doesn’t have the second launch key when Grace shows up with the key. He looks confused then stunned. He orders a missile door opened and calls the family boat. He tells the head of the Pakistani’s team onboard he will target his hometown with a missile if the hostages aren’t released. The SEALs attack, killing many of the Pakistanis as another SEAL team from U.S. helicopters lands onto the boat. The island SEALs withdraw and one of the surviving crewmembers of the boat grabs Christine. On the sub Chaplin looks at Grace and silently takes his launch key from her. You can tell he suspects she is the CIA mole.
Sounds As if It’s Time For a Road Trip
The Indian troops have withdrawn and the press blames Chaplin for the hostage deaths. Chaplin finds Christine and she denies she took the key. He tells her that a CIA plant is on the sub and it could be anyone. If it’s not her, she needs to find out who it is. King and Booth (Gideon Emery) dig up the smart cards that include mission footage of the attempt to plant evidence of a nuclear weapon. Booth was the SEAL who made the fictional discovery of the nuclear materials in Pakistan.
In the bar that night Kendal and Chaplin talk over the days events. In the confusion during the firefight Christine was kidnapped by one of the retreating soldiers and Kendal wants to stage a rescue. King shows up and apologizes for letting Christine be captured. He then proceeds to tell Chaplin and Kendal the details of his disastrous Pakistani mission.
