There's a 3D animated Angry Birds feature in the works. If it's like the game, I'll be watching it over and over and over again, all the while cursing at the screen. Let's see what else is getting the greenlight.
Drive Director will Equalize Denzel
Sony Pictures has chosen a director for its hot new Denzel Washington project. Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) is in talks to direct The Equalizer, inspired by the 1980s TV series starring Edward Woodward. Washington will play the title role, a mysterious retired special agent who helps overmatched people fight injustice. Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2) wrote the buzzed-about script. Washington may get a well-deserved Oscar nomination in Flight. This sounds like a less challenging project. I didn't love Drive, which could have been a great action film if not for Refn's artsy pretention, but at least he has style to burn. Washington generally doesn't take many risks in the projects he chooses and directors he works with, so this is an intriguing pairing.
