Tonight the X Factor returned to reveal the semi-final results and name the top three acts that had made it to next week's finale. While it seemed that Fifth Harmony would be the act to leave the show, they managed to survive. We didn't find out the order of votes so it is unclear if Fifth Harmony had claimed the top spot.
X Factor features judges Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears and L.A. Reid and airs on FOX on Thursdays at 8:00 pm ET.
Fifth Harmony is First Act to Finals
Fifth Harmony delivered their best performances last night and it paid off. The all girl band was the first act sent to the finals. While I rooted for Fifth Harmony and thought they had an excellent shot in the finals, it was clear from the judge's reactions they expected the group to go home. The look on Britney's face was absolutely priceless. Khloe Kardashian wasted no time commenting on Britney's confused expression.
"Britney, you look very surprised!" Khloe Kardashian exclaimed. Watching Britney's reaction was probably my highlight of the entire show.
Good Luck Charlie's Bridgit Mendler Performs
My kids like Good Luck Charlie and it's a really good show. They are also fans of Bridgit Mendler's so I was looking forward to hearing her. She is a talented singer and I'm glad she got exposure singing on the show. I hope that this will expand her fan base. Bridgit did a great job and her song set up the next act that would be safe: Tate Stevens.
Tate Stevens Makes it to the Finals
Country fans pulled together and voted for Tate. I didn't think he'd go home, but after Fifth Harmony made it, I knew that the act to be sent home would be a surprise. Just as long as Carly's safe, I'll be all right. Tate's wife must be thrilled. They are a cute couple and just celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary. From what we've seen with the leader board, Tate has an excellent chance of winning next week.
Bruno Mars Performs; Carly Rose and Emblem 3 Sweat it Out
Bruno Mars is a tremendously talented artist and it was great watching him on the show. He gave an excellent performance and appeared at ease. While Bruno Mars entertained the audience and home viewers, Carly Rose and Emblem 3 sweat it out, as one of them would go home. Bruno Mars finished and it was time for the results.
Yes! Carly Rose Sonenclar was safe! That meant it was the end of the road for Simon Cowell's newest boy band Emblem 3. Emblem 3 shouldn't have any problem with their future music career. They have a lot of fans and if Fifth Harmony blew it last night, they probably would have made it to the finals. Fifth Harmony threw in some Spanish in their final song, and I wonder if that endeared them to Latino voters. Either way, Fifth Harmony made it to the finals and it was clear the act eliminated would be shocking. When choosing between Carly Rose Sonenclar and Emblem 3, there's no choice but to eliminate Emblem 3.
The guys handled it very well and Simon looked genuinely disappointed. He confirmed that he believes they will have a successful career and their time on the show was just the beginning for them. They smiled at Simon's comforting words, but their disappointment was hard to hide.
What did you think of tonight's result show and the elimination? Did the United States get it right? Do you think the right act went home?
