FILE - In this Sept. 10, 2011 file photo, Brooke Mueller is seen at the "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen" in Culver City, Calif. Mueller pleaded guilty to a reduced cocaine drug charge under a deferred judgment that means her record will remain clean after she serves a year's probation. Court documents show Brooke Mueller appeared in district court in Aspen Monday, March 19, 2012 to plead guilty to felony drug possession of four grams or less. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop the more serious possession with intent to distribute charge, as well as a misdemeanor third-degree assault charge. Sentencing is scheduled for May 7. Oh, Brooke Mueller. When you’re making Charlie Sheen look like the more fit parent for the children you share, you definitely have a problem. Her continuing problems with addiction landed her in the hospital again recently, and Charlie’s other ex, Denise Richards, had to step in briefly to take care of Brooke’s twin sons. If Brooke doesn’t start taking care of herself soon, she may lose her family altogether.

Wake Up Call

Brooke was rushed to the hospital on Friday, December 7, 2012 and reports soon circled that the troubled mother had suffered a drug overdose. Her representatives were quick to issue a statement that there were no illegal drugs found in Brooke’s system and that she had been brought to the hospital as a precautionary measure when she was unresponsive to people trying to wake her from an afternoon nap. They claimed she merely suffered from exhaustion and dehydration. Um, yeah, sure. TMZ reported that members of the Los Angeles County Department of Children’s Services showed up at Brooke’s home on December 8 searching for evidence of drug use or child abuse. Brooke stayed in rehab for a total of six days and according to TMZ checked out the afternoon of December 17.

Adderall Addiction?

It seems that her most recent scare came as a result of a legal drug that is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Adderall. Mueller has been in and out of rehab a reported 19 times, most recently in May for alleged issues with crack and cocaine. Adderall, a prescription psychostimulant often overused by college students pulling all-nighters studying (or partying), would certainly seem to provide a similar form of rush to Brooke’s reported favorite substances of the past. So, while her reps stated that Brooke had no illegal drugs in her system, it is possible that the difficulties in waking her could have resulted from a post-Adderall crash.

Denise Richards Steps In

Brooke’s twin boys, Bob and Max, were unable to stay with their father while Brooke was in the hospital because Charlie was busy working on his FX series, Anger Management. In a strange twist, Charlie’s other ex-wife and baby mama, Denise Richards, stepped up to the plate and took care of the boys while their mother was indisposed. Denise and Brooke have been growing closer recently, evidenced by Denise and Charlie throwing Brooke a 35th birthday party earlier this year. Denise’s father was even seen playing surrogate grandfather, taking the boys to an outdoor shopping mall. One would hope that Denise, who by all reports is a devoted mother to her own three children (two with Charlie and one adopted last year), could help Brooke to grow up and start putting her children’s needs ahead of her own desires to party.

Looking to the Future

Hopefully the 19th time will be the charm and this latest stint in rehab will work for Brooke. She appears to have an instinct for real estate as she recently made a reported profit of half a million dollars by flipping a house formerly owned by Spice Girl Mel B. Hopefully, with ongoing assistance, she can finally be the mother her boys need. Bob and Max are still young, but as they get older they are bound to begin to wonder why their mother checks out for periods of time.
