Staying Strong: Suburgatory (ABC)

Some shows break the tension with comedy, Suburgatory breaks the comedy with tension -- but it works. Such is the life of a teen who tries to take real problems and cloak them with jokes. In Season 2, Tessa (Jane Levy) continues to wryly dissect suburbia, even if certain elements of her character are a bit cliché. At the risk of oversimplifying things a bit, Suburgatory is one of those shows that just works.

Is Tessa the Ryan Seacrest of Chatswin? Well, she tries to be when she volunteers to take over as producer of the high school television show, "Teen Talk," only to see her boyfriend -the dumb but well-built Ryan Shay- grab the limelight.

Suburgatory starring Jane Levy, Jeremy Sisto and Cheryl Hines airs on ABC Wednesdays at 9:30 pm ET.

Tessa's "Teen Talk" Becomes Ryan's "Body Talk"

Can Tessa (Jane Levy) survive high school television? When she takes over as producer of Chatswin High's afternoon television show "Teen Talk," it nearly destroys her relationship with her shallow, dim but undeniably handsome boyfriend, Ryan Shay (Parker Young). Although he thinks he is coming to her rescue by offering to host the show when the regular presenter calls in sick, Ryan soon takes over, turning "Teen Talk" to "Body Talk" - and where the only body anyone wants to talk about is his.

Dallas and Dalia in Denial in the Driveway

How will Dallas (Cheryl Hines) and Dalia (Carly Chaikin) survive being kicked out of Chatswin? When George (Jeremy Sisto) starts designing a cabana for Dallas he discovers that her property is 58 percent in East Chatswin, the far less exclusive neighboring town. Unfortunately he announces this publicly during their dinner at the Chatswin Country Club - from which she and even her fluffy little dog Yakult are unceremoniously expelled. Rather than go back inside her now East Chatswin address, she elects to live in her car, for the driveway is still in Chatswin.

Dalia Cries: Don't Judge Me By My Tan!

Dalia gets a taste of her own medicine when as the newest student of the almost all-Black East Chatswin High she is ostracized and bullied by the Black version of herself and her posse: Daisy and the Triple A's (Ashley, Amber and Amantha). "Albinos can't drink from this fountain" they tell her, and taunt Dalia for being "so pale you look like a vampire - do you need a transfusion?"

George and Noah Go to "the Ultimate Power Broker of Chatswin"

Ever deal with a zoning board? In a scene reminiscent of a meeting with the Godfather, George tries to convince the elderly zoning commissioner of Chatswin to adjust the boundary line enough to bring Dallas' home back inside the town line. Doing so requires him going all the way to Queens to find a computer that can read the ancient floppy disk the commissioner, Marty, gives him. He fills out the required paperwork only to have it rejected out of hand. When Noah (Alan Tudyk) asks the old town clerk why he made George go to so much trouble just to turn down the request, Marty's answer is simple and terse: "Protocol." It seems that even in Chatswin you can't fight city hall.
