From the beginning of this week’s episode, it was clear that sexual tension was heavy in the Nashville air. Rayna eyed Deacon, and Scarlett and Gunnar couldn’t stop smiling around each other. Of course, Rayna’s husband Teddy and Scarlett’s ex, Avery, were still in the mix and ready to stir up trouble.
Nashville starring Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton airs on ABC Wednesdays at 10:00 pm ET.
The Shows Must Go On
The tour continued, with Rayna (Connie Britton) wowing her fans and trading barbs with Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) as usual. Deacon (Charles Esten), now playing in Juliette’s band, was overwhelmed by the scale of the show. It was especially exciting to see Will from So You Think You Can Dance as one of Juliette’s backing dancers on stage! Rayna asked Deacon to help her new guitarist with one of their songs, and the exchange was tense.
Scarlett (Clare Bowen) worried about paying her rent without help from Avery(Jonathan Jackson), while Avery pondered going to see her sing with his former band mates. Meanwhile, Rayna finally persuaded the record execs to agree to give her a label of her own, and she considered signing Scarlett and Gunnar. Teddy was frustrated by Deacon joining his wife’s tour, and he met up with his own temptation, the newly single Peggy. Peggy and Teddy finally gave in to their attraction and shared a steamy smooch and ended up sleeping together!
Stress and Struggles
Juliette struggled under the artistic limits of her pop star branding and worried that her fans wouldn’t follow her into a more mature style. Avery was being followed by a television crew to share his version of Nashville, and he brought the crew by Scarlett’s house, but she was not impressed. He also refused to fork over the money he owed her. Scarlett came up with her own solution and asked Gunnar to be her new roommate.
Juliette Tries Something New
Juliette took the stage in a subdued ensemble and invited Deacon to sing their new song, impressing Rayna. Hayden really pulls off the singing scenes better than one would expect from her previous work; the young actress seems to be coming into her own as an adult on this show, much like her character, which is especially fun to watch if you’ve followed her career since her days as a pint-sized killer on Guiding Light. Juliette was crushed when the audience reviewed her new direction harshly, but she cheered up after her assistant pointed out that a video of the new song was instantly popular online.
Love Triangles
After several efforts to ignore Rayna, Deacon finally decided to answer her questions with a sexy kiss that left the singer breathless. Scarlett was also dumbstruck when Avery showed up with a check and an apology in the middle of Gunnar moving into their home. Avery and Gunnar exchanged a few punches before Scarlett threw Avery out and tended to Gunnar’s wounds. Avery walked out on his manager, declaring that the physical side of their relationship was over.
Rayna was on her way out the door to find Deacon when suddenly Teddy appeared! Deacon, it turns out, was also intending to follow up on the smooch, and he was disappointed to see Teddy enter his wife’s room. However, Teddy wasn’t there to re-kindle the flame but instead to ask Rayna for a divorce!
What do you think? Should Rayna give up on her marriage? Should Scarlett hook up with Gunnar?
