Controversial, six-time NFL Pro Bowl veteran Terrell Owens is back on Go On tonight, and this time as the newest staff member at KBAL radio. Piper Perabo continues as Ryan's girlfriend and veteran actor Ned Beatty also guest stars.
Go On Starring Matthew Perry, John Cho and Laura Benanti airs on NBC Tuesdays at 9:00 pm ET.
Terrell Owens is "The Temp" at KBAL
"You're asking yourself why would a future, Hall of Fame wide receiver want to work at KBAL?" says Terrell Owens to Ryan King (Matthew Perry) and Stephen (John Cho) while interviewing for a job as a temp at the station. "I want to get into the broadcast business and I want to learn from the best," he explains, "but Bob Costas said 'no' so here I am."
Ryan King Stands for Something – At Least When it Helps to Impress a Girl
Ryan so badly wants to impress Simone (Piper Perabo) that he has his assistant bring in props to dress up the office to make him appear smarter and classier than he really is. Ryan, however, as always takes things one step too far, and rather than do a commercial for a male enhancement cream, storms out in a pretended huff. Simone is impressed – but Ryan wonders privately if he has done a stupid thing just for a girl.
"You think Ryan is deep?" Anne (Julie White) asks Simone incredulously adding, "Are you so pretty that I didn't realize you're dumb?" Simone, however, does indeed think there is something more to Ryan than meets the eye, and convinces him to come with her to a meditation retreat to find his inner self. Ryan tries, halfheartedly, but soon realizes that he not only doesn't get mediation, he hates the whole experience and the people involved with it.
Yolanda Gets Lauren to ‘Go On’ a Date
Does Yolanda have a crush on Lauren? On the pretext of helping Lauren (Laura Benanti) figure out who in the group has given her a poor score on an evaluation form, Yolanda (Suzy Nakamura) takes her to a fancy, romantic restaurant, complete with candles and wine - and not to Starbucks for coffee as Lauren expected. When Yolanda adds that she has booked a suite and a couples' massage among other things, Lauren explains that she has "crossed the line." Undaunted, Yolanda soldiers on to share the secret recordings she has made of the group sessions. It is George (Bill Cobbs), however, the blind, former detective who figures out the mystery.
Ned Beatty Puts Ryan in His Place
What demon haunts Ryan? His old high school hockey coach, that's who - as played by Ned Beatty. While meditating Ryan falls asleep and in his dreams he meets Coach Spence (Ned Beatty). The coach is astonished to see Ryan in his meditation garb, and admonishes him: "You meet this chick and you go prancing around dressed like the guy who fought Darth Vader?" When Ryan explains that he walked away from his job for a principle to impress the girl, the coach scolds him and tells him to get back to work. "You have no talent," the coach berates Ryan, "so they pay you all this money to talk about those who do."
